Mental Health Kokua (MHK) embraces transparency and accountability. By “transparency” we mean openness, and communication. We define “accountability” as assuming our responsibility for policies, actions, and decisions, which includes our leadership and governance. We respect our obligation to report, explain and be answerable for consequences that result from our business operations.

Mental Health Kokua also maintains a code of ethics and business principles for public relations, which are found in part as follows:

  • To portray people with mental illnesses as capable and competent.
  • To refer to people with disabilities in “person first” language; i.e., people with a mental illness.
  • To abide by Mental Health Kokua policies and community standards when relating public statements.
  • To exercise special care when making recommendations or opinions public through testimony or other public statements, because as a health care organization Mental Health Kokua may influence and alter the lives of others.

As a community-based non-profit organization, we are stewards of public trust. To ensure efficient, effective, quality portrayals of our organization and the people we service we have engaged the services of Blaise Noto and Associates (http://www.blaisenotoassociates.com/) specializing in the design and implementation of award-winning, cost-effective and creative marketing and public relations strategies.
