How to make an appointment
It’s as simple as 1, 2, 3
#1 Call Us
On Oahu 808-529-4550
On Maui 808-986-0059
Calling is the hard part. For many of us, we have never had to make a call for help. We may wonder, “does this mean I’m weak” … “what will my family think”… “why, why, why…?”
Just do it. Call us. Within minutes you will know this is the right thing to do!
#2 When You Call
Our receptionist will ask you a few questions regarding contact information and insurance. One of our clinicians will then contact you about:
- The reason for your call.
- How long you have been feeling this way.
- Current care you are getting (if any).
- What kind of services you are interested in; e.g., individual; family; couples; etc.
- When you would like an appointment.
#3 Get scheduled
- Our goal is to schedule your appointment within 7 days (or sooner if needed).
- We can accommodate your work schedule with early morning, early evening appointments, and Saturdays.
“What is mental health treatment’?”
- At Kokua Counseling Centers, we help people find hope again through solving problems and building confidence.
- We use best practice care to help reach your goals and care pathways for common behavioral health challenges; e.g., depression and anxiety.
“What happens in treatment?”
- Individual therapy – “Talk therapy” is a way learn how life got this way, and to get you where you want to be. Psychotherapy is performed by licensed, qualified behavioral health professionals (non-physicians), for children, adolescents, and adults with behavioral health issues.
- Groups, Parenting & Couples Therapy – It’s good to know that you are not alone. Groups and classes can be fun and helpful.
- Medication Management – For some symptoms, medication is a choice for you. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication.
“How long does treatment take?”
- Most people complete treatment within 6-12 sessions.
- Individual or Family Appointments are usually 45 to 50 minutes.
- Group Therapy and/or educational classes usually range from 60, 90, or 120 minutes.
- Medication Management appointments are usually 20 to 25 minutes. Treatment with medication may be ongoing (as prescribed).
