Our Services


Our program are Statewide, o’hana oriented, and include outreach and community integration services for adults who are homeless and mentally ill; varied case management services designed to support increasing levels of self-care capacity;  psycho-social rehabilitation activity programming directed to increasing social and vocational skills; peer coaching support and training leading to increased sense of confidence and social contribution;  respite support allowing families to have a break in caretaking; and  a spectrum of residential placement options, all leading to recovery and community restoration for those who are able to participate.  Mental Health Kokua served over 1,500 people in 2007. 

52% were males, and 48% were females. 

58% of our consumers were of other than Caucasian decent. 

49% were between the ages of 28-47.

44% were diagnosed with schizophrenic disorders.


Our Services


Residential Recovery Services Continuum


Safe Haven. For persons who are homeless and have mental illness Safe Haven offers outreach, medical and psychiatric care, case management, 24-hour residential services, and social rehabilitation activities.  Mental Health Kokua and Kalihi-Palama Health Center work collaboratively in operating this unique project in Downtown Honolulu.


Interim Housing.    Designed as an immediate, short-term alternative to institutionalization, Interim Housing services include community placement, access to clinical care, and linkage to needed community resources.  Interim programs are located on Oahu and in Hilo.


Transitional Residential Resources.  Mental Health Kokua offers 24-hour supervised group residential facilities and individualized services in transitional housing settings.  Agency projects in this category that serve consumers with serious mental illnesses are located on Oahu, in East Hawaii and West Hawaii, on Maui and on Kauai.


Supportive Living Housing Sites.  Supportive group housing is provided on a less intense level, with consumer support available 8-16 hours a day on site and on-call.  Residences are located on Oahu, on Maui, in East Hawaii and West Hawaii, and on Kauai.
